When pursuing an online college degree in favor of traditional college degree programs, discipline is going to be a large factor of your overall performance. While attending a traditional college or university undoubtedly requires a certain amount of discipline, an online college degree program may in fact require even more. Pursuing college degree programs from the comfort of your own home may present any number of challenges that students seeking degrees in a traditional university or college atmosphere likely will not face.
Atmosphere is the key word here. Viewing courses for your online college degree from the comfort of your own home will likely present many distractions. Phones ringing, friends knocking on your door, and even getting up to go to the restroom, are all going to distract you from learning. It may even be possible to fall asleep while watching an online lecture because you have become so comfortable sprawled out on your couch with your laptop. These distractions are why it is so important to create a study space that is designed specifically to your own study needs. Try to eliminate as many possible distractions as you can. Make sure you are comfortable, but not so comfortable that you become overly relaxed. In short, make sure that there is a place for everything and that everything is in its place.
